Cake Makers resist infantilization...

• We are artists. Among us are professionals who study our craft as rigorously as any artist who works in a medium that is permanent. Yes, even the cutest of us care about our creative work and recognize its social potency.

• We are not performance artists. Even though our work is short-lived, the creation of it is not always observed.

• We are multi-modal and multi-talented. Our craft requires not just knowledge of one medium, but of multiple, in order to create one delicious, gorgeous, thought-provoking piece of…cake art.

• We are interactive. Our work is meant to be shared and ingested by others. Our work is fulfilled once it’s been eaten.

• We are certified. Our work can only be shared to its fullest extent when certified by local Health Department authorities.

• We are sturdy in the face of AI. By engaging with other people and creating tangible art for sensual consumption we help people stay in embodied relationship, and protect people from potential harms of Artificial Intelligence.

• We are meaning-makers. We create singular representations of life’s most revelrous moments; cakes are synonymous with ‘celebration’.

• What we make is an embodied sensory experience, which is inherently life-affirming.

• Cake is a crowd-sourced effort: People who farm, People who manufacture, People who package, People who drive, People who bake, People who decorate, People who eat. 

In all these ways, we are Unique, unlike any other art form. In small Business and in Art, we are already pulling up our well-deserved seat at the table. Grab a stool and join us.

The industry needs an upgrade of empowered and united internal conversations.

OUR FIRST BIG PROJECT:

We are formulating a structure for cake makers at every level to distinguish expectations and to provide a categorical rubric to present to clients and customers that distinguish their experience and accomplishments as a craftsperson.

We are stronger together.
