What if becoming an artist wasn't about claiming the mantle?

What if it was about recognizing that you'd already been thinking like an artist all along?

Cake art is art. At Cake Circle, we already know this.

But the public is still catching up. This makes sense—as a creative field, we haven't yet integrated the foundations of support that other traditional art forms already have.

  • 🎨 There is no widespread awareness of our lineage & appreciation of our history, in large part because we ourselves don't have that knowing yet.
  • ❤️‍🔥 We aren't surfacing the why behind what we do, or talking about the philosophies behind our work (aka our Theories of Practice).
  • 🛠️ We don't have the frameworks of supportive organizations other fields of art and industries do... yet.

So, if you find yourself struggling to prove your validity as an artist to a friendly stranger in the elevator, or to your in-laws at a dinner party, it's because the world at large has not yet reflected that validity back to you.

And fixing this problem starts with us, the people who make cake.

Cake Circle's mission is to uplevel the cake industry and public perception of the distinctive work that we do. This initiative starts with transforming our own understanding of cake art as rich with meaning, technical mastery, and cultural value.

Even the way we teach will align with this mission.

Co-founder Jasmine Rae is returning to teaching for the sake of deepening these critical conversations... and moving us, the artists whose medium is cake, into more deeply embodying our own narratives—the first step towards shifting public understandings of the value of what we do.

So let's do this integration together. We invite you to explore two new live workshops that are coming up this November:

Workshop 1: Cake Study and Play Day

Saturday, Nov. 14th
at Sweet Heather Anne's Studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan (USA)

This 1-day workshop begins with a short Cake Study session led by Cake Circle co-founder Azara K., and transitions into a full creative day of exploration and play guided by Jasmine Rae.

Rather than just learning how to reproduce a technique, attendees will begin identifying the choices, instincts, and patterns that make their work uniquely theirs, and learn how to carry that artistic thinking into their creative process, client relationships, and business.

Workshop 2: Blossoming Surfaces

Sunday–Monday, Nov. 15th–16th
at Sweet Heather Anne's Studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan (USA)

In this two-day Masterclass, Jasmine will share one of her most distinctive cake art techniques and lead a deeper investigation into creative and business practices.

This workshop is for cake makers who want to learn techniques that elevate their artwork and build businesses that support the artists they are becoming.

Curious about what a Blossoming Surface is? Jasmine created this piece using the Blossoming technique last weekend:

Because maybe it's so hard to step into the title of "artist" because you haven't fully investigated the fingerprint you leave on your own work...

... and do I need to remind you that fingerprints are unique?

We're going to pull out the magnifying glass together and see, in full relief, all the evidence that you leave on your work.

Tips and tricks abound, but what's the point of learning more techniques without a unique perspective to energize them?

Your blossoming awaits.

We hope to see you there!

xoxo,

Jasmine Rae & Azara K.
