One of the themes that's been coming up in Cake Circle gatherings lately is permission.
Sometimes, no matter the techniques we know, no matter how many years we've been making cake art, we find ourselves unable to embrace the artist identity without the permissive affirmation of the people around us, people we love, and trust, and respect.
As part of the Cake Circle mission to support the cake industry and the artists who make it the richly creative place it is, co-founder Jasmine Rae is returning to teaching, to share techniques of course, but more than that:
To grant as many brilliant cake artists permission to shine as possible.

What are Earthly Textures?
Earthly Textures evoke the rocky, sandy textures we find in nature, calling to mind the feeling of running one's hand over stone or other mineral surfaces.
Since Jasmine first invented these techniques more than 15 years ago, they have swept the cake industry as a signal of artistry and naturalistic elegance to discerning clients worldwide.
This workshop is the only opportunity to learn these singular techniques from the person who created them: hear the stories behind how they were invented, understand the philosophies that guide their application, and form a deeper connection to this work than you could anywhere else.

Students don’t simply learn how to reproduce a technique—they begin identifying the choices, instincts, and patterns that make their work uniquely theirs, and learn how to carry that thinking into their creative process, client relationships, and business. Rather than prescribing a philosophy, Jasmine uses technique and experimentation to help each student discover their own.

Blossoming Surfaces

Over two days, students will begin to parse the language of the ruffle—learning how simple, repeatable gestures can accumulate into complexity—then allowing that language to move into the body of the cake through intuitive sculpting and how to conceive of the liquid grid. We'll explore what happens when a surface begins to bend, swell, gather, and gesture, rather than simply sit on top of a form.
